Huw Lewis MBE
Richard Huw Lewis is Managing Director of the Motivational Preparation College for Training (MPCT). Huw completed his Military Career reaching the rank of Captain in the Royal Welsh. Huw joined the Royal Welsh at the age of 17 where he served in Ireland, Berlin, Bosnia, Tidworth, Chepstow and Haverford West.
After leaving the Army, Huw quickly became known for his passion and ability to relate with young people instilling motivation and determination in the youth of today to succeed and fulfill their ambitions. In 2001, Huw received a MBE for his work in training young people within the Army Preparation course.
MPCT has been hugely successful since its conception in 1999 and has been awarded the Investors in People Double Gold Award, the first organisation to achieve such status in the UK. Through Huw’s persistent drive and commitment to help young people today, MPCT now train over 1600 learners a year, aged 14-19, across both England and Wales. From just two training locations in Cardiff and Rhymney, Huw has expanded the company’s operations to 17 locations across the UK in his bid to reach out to as many young people as possible.
In August 2014, MPCT was awarded the highest performance grade possible by Her Majesty’s Inspectorates OFSTED, achieving Grade 1 Outstanding across all four levels of inspection. Huw’s leadership and management skills were recognised as outstanding where “senior leaders place their highest priority on supporting all learners to succeed”. Huw, along with his team, has helped enlist over 2000 young people into the Military, resulting in MPCT achieving a Defence Recognition Scheme Silver Award in 2015.
In May 2015, Huw received the Institute of Director’s “Director’s Award” in Wales as an acknowledgement for the excellent work he is doing in his particular field. Huw has also been shortlisted for the UK finals, which takes place in October 2015.
Originally from Dolgellau, in North Wales, where he was born on May 5, 1968, Huw now lives in Abergavenny. When Huw isn’t working and on the road, he regularly participate in British Military Fitness (BMF) activities of which he owns the franchise to operate across South Wales, Bristol and Chester. Huw also loves to spend his spare time with his partner Mel and son Charlie, aged 5.
