Meet the Staff
I have worked in training for over 10 years delivering sports coaching and exercise to young people who wish to pursue a career in the sports and active leisure industry. During this time I have completed my Post 16 Teaching Qualification, A1 Assessor Award and V1 Internal Verifier Qualification, all of which has enabled me to couple my coaching and instructing background with teaching practices. Before working in Training I work for many years in Local Authority Sports Development and Community Development. I currently play semi-professional rugby for Newport RFC and have represented Wales in Baseball.
"The best part about working in training and education through sports and fitness, in the ability it has to engage with young people from all backgrounds and abilities. The physical active learning opportunities allows us as teachers to ensure that all learning is innovative and fun for all."Ryan James
I have been part of the apprenticeship team since Aug 2013 delivering level 2 fitness instructor and level 3 personal trainer courses. Having a real passion for health and fitness it’s great to be a tutor as it allows me to pass on my enthusiasm and shape the future and current health and fitness employees. The role is always varied and the diversity of apprentices and gyms makes the role enjoyable.Steffan Rees

The best part of my job is being able to meet new employers and employees. I have always had a keen interest in Sports and the Fitness industry, and following my studies, I was able to begin my career as a Fitness Instructor. As part of the Dragon CrossFit Coaching team, I gained qualifications such as CrossFit Level 1, CrossFit Strongman, KBT Strength and Conditioning Level 1 & 2, and also British Weightlifting Level 1. I have recently begun my journey with MPCT as an Apprenticeship Officer, and I look forward to continuing my personal development within the company. I currently play rugby for Ystrad Rhondda in the WRU Championship.
I have received a fantastic welcome since joining MPCT, and I have already had a taste for the genuine development opportunities within the company. MPCT clearly values its employees and I am glad to have become a part of such a passionate organisation.Adam Lewis
Originally hailing from Aberystwyth, I came to Cardiff University to study a BSc in Psychology. As part of my degree I worked in an Independent School specialising in residential and educational care for young people aged 7 to 19 who had social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. It was working at this school that sparked my passion for education and I went on to complete my PGCE Primary Certification and have spent the last 3 years teaching in schools with challenging socio-economic backgrounds.
Running alongside my academic studies, I grew to love fitness more and more and attended a diverse number of exercise classes. I was inspired by one of the few female instructors at the time to pursue becoming an instructor myself. In 2013 I completed my first fitness qualification, Level 2 ‘Exercise to Music’. Soon after I enrolled to train as an instructor of the popular ‘Les Mills’ programmes including Body Attack and Body Pump. Since then I have taught weekly classes around a number of gyms in the South Wales area and have a huge love for the energy, comradery and progress that can be made with group exercise.
I have gone on to complete my Level 2 ‘Gym Instructor’ and Level 3 ‘Personal Training’ qualifications with MPCT and have continued my own CPD training in Circuits, Spin, Kettlebell and Suspended Movement. From there I founded ‘Ford Fitness Personal Training’, providing 1:1 and small-group coaching to a wide and diverse client base. Seeing my clients’ progress, whether it be weight-loss, PBs or moving without pain has re-ignited my love for the incredible impact that this industry can have on people’s everyday lives.
As such, when the role of ‘Sports Apprenticeship Officer’ became available at MPCT I jumped at the chance. My role allows me to marry together both my love for education and exercise in one job and am grateful to be part of the MPCT family as we engage, motivate and educate learners through their fitness qualifications to make for a happier, healthier society.
I have a background in sport and fitness, where I have 16 years experience in this industry. I have used my degree throughout this period and been lucky enough to work for recognised companies such as, The Vale Hotel and David Lloyd. Within these job roles I have worked my way through from part time Gym Instructor to Fitness Manager in both companies. I have also worked with many PT clients and managed many Personal Trainers through their successful PT journeys. I have, over the years, increased my knowledge my taking on extra qualifications such as, circuits, spin, kettle-bells, TRX, Power plate, Nutrition, Synergy, to name a few.
Along with the sport and fitness aspects, I have completed my PGCE qualification. I have taught on a Level 3 PT course and followed a SOW to successfully teach students through the course. The students were all 16+ and the success rate was 95%+ over the 3 years that I was teaching.
As a keen sportsman, I have played rugby for 30 years and have played at a high standard throughout. I have played semi-professional level and have received a Welsh Students cap, which I was very proud of. As well as, going to the gym, exercising and being active, my other main hobby is my 9 month old son. My wife and I are very proud parents!
